You my not have heard but the Chicago Transportation Authority narrowly averting a large asteroid that was headed towards Earth on Jan. 29 2008.
The war on Iraq and its mismanagement of funds coupled with a load of unnecessary tax cuts. Left states with little or no money for state projects and programs like the CTA. If no money could be raised then the struggling CTA would not have had the money to get new rocket powered buses. Thus having to use the buses they already had. Then people would have been left with no way of getting to work.
Professor Duncan Steel, the author of Target Earth, a book about asteroids, told the BBC that such events should not be sensationalised.
I beg to differ. Not only did get it together at the last minute. But they also worked out a plan to have senior citizens ride the asteroid for free. And this is not the last time we will hear about a CTA "doomsday". Every time you think your free and clear, the sky comes crashing down again.
